An erstwhile US-follower of Biglorryblog (and proud Peterbilt owner) has fired this fascinating shot over and to say: "Good Day, Brian, Carl Stephens over here in the USA. You caught (on the Peterbilt.com site) an image of my latest car transporter that I put together in 2007 (How Low Can You Go?). I visit your site from time to time because it's interesting to me to see how it's done overseas. I remember earlier in my career a fleet of French-made 'stinger-steered' transporters operated by a now-defunct USA company named Nu-Car Carriers and the trailers were really innovative and decades ahead of the competition. In response to your 'Who's Got The Biggest One?' asking how many autos can you get on one truck... I am attaching an image of that same 'low-down' lorry car transporter with a recent load running from the east coast of the US across country into the Los Angeles basin. The load was legal height (here in the US it's mostly 13' 6" or 3.9624 m) and the weight distribution between the 5 axle rig was legit as well...grossing around 79000 pounds or 35.83 metric tons. :-) Have fun with it... Thanks, Carl Stephens USA." Interesting shot mate... By my reckoning that's 8 Minis, 1 VW Beetle, 1 Audi TT fastback and err... Something else I can't quite make out and what looks like an old Merc at the back... So how did I do?

AtkiPete Lynch has picked up the challenge Biglorryblog has laid down regarding how many cars you can get on a car transporter. He has sent me this picture and says:
"G'day Brian, here is my entry in the BLB car carrier competition. He might have only six cars on board but this fella with his little five-tonne Nissan prime mover deserves some sort of award for effort. Cheers Pete." Just goes to show Pete small can be beautiful, and if not beautiful then at least useful!

Peter Murray is back with a nice off-beat contribution."Hello again Brian, I see the old Commer car carriers in the recent Blog update, and a few days ago there was a photo of a single drive prime mover with a small wheel pusher axle."



"The attached pics show how car carrying has evolved downunder - and the others show that the 'small wheel' pusher axle is in use over here too."


Meanwhile Peter continues: "The pics are from 2005 and slightly earlier. In the intervening time - Finemores were taken over by TOLL."


"The trailer design is known as a 'Stinger' and the basic design has been around for 15 years or more. They are 12 car capacity units."



Peter adds: "The rigs are the same overall length as a B Double and operate under the same restrictions/regulations as B Doubles do."
